Physical Education

Learning in PE

The elementary PE program at RISD is designed to provide students with a foundation of skills, knowledge, and motivation for lifelong physical health. Students are exposed to a variety of developmentally appropriate activities, challenges, and movements that follow the National Physical Education Standards. These five standards provide the framework for our curriculum and are further broken down into Grade Level Outcomes (GLOs). These specific indicators are used to determine grade level expectations.

Sportsmanship is a top priority in our PE classes. Students are expected to demonstrate positive examples of sportsmanship throughout each class. Students are encouraged to recognize the efforts and positive contributions from classmates with “shout outs of appreciation”. Often, students are recognized for their teamwork, respectful conflict resolutions, and perseverance. Students take pride in their positive behaviors. It is a special moment for students to be recognized by their peers for their efforts.
